The importance of the right lighting so as not to tire the eyes

Almost everyone nowadays, for work or perhaps just for passion, spends many hours a day with their eyes glued to their smartphone or in front of their PC. This is why it is very important to ensure that this is done using the correct lighting.

Perhaps not everyone knows that prolonged and incorrect exposure to light from PC screens, smartphones, tablets, and so on can cause very annoying symptoms such as eye strain, dry and irritated eyes, headaches or neck pain, mental fatigue, and even sleep disturbances. This is why the importance of using the right lighting should never be overlooked.

Fortunately, when we work or study extensively at the computer, there are some solutions that come to our aid and that we can easily put into practice. Here are some of them.

The importance of natural light
First of all, always try to use natural light filtering through the windows to illuminate your PC workstation. The ideal lighting in these cases is obtained by positioning your workstation perpendicularly or frontally to the window; on the contrary, avoid positioning yourself with the light source behind you, as there is a risk that it will reflect on the screen, making it difficult to see.

Better lighting for the room
Arranging the lights appropriately to ensure correct PC lighting is vital even when natural light is not sufficient, such as during the winter months or when you are forced to work well beyond daylight hours.
It is precisely in these contexts that the importance of choosing the right lamps comes into play, capable of providing an adequate light source that can replace natural light.

The best solution to opt for, in most cases, is a combination of whole-room lighting and a direct light source for the desk, carefully choosing ceiling lights and a desk lamp.

As for ambient lighting, instead of the cold light of neon tubes (which eventually strains the eyes), it is preferable to opt for LEDs or low-consumption lamps that are neutral or warm, between 3000 and 4000 K, depending on the environment to be illuminated.

It must always be considered, in fact, that the artificial lighting of the environment around us must be as close as possible to natural light, which is why, as mentioned, the light must come from above and be diffused evenly.
In this way, the generation of very annoying shadows (caused instead by side light sources) will be avoided and, at the same time, glare will be prevented, allowing the eyes adequate "rest".

Among artificial light sources, floor lamps or halogens also represent an excellent solution because they provide more indirect illumination.

For the desk, place adjustable lamps that can be regulated by a dimmer, so that the light intensity can be increased or decreased depending on the passing hours and changes in ambient lighting.

Finally, a small (but useful) tip for the most indefatigable. If you are among those who cannot fall asleep without first having had one last social media binge, never do it in complete darkness; always leave an artificial light source on that can compensate for the light coming from your phone screen, it will help your eyes.

PS: We take it for granted, but it never hurts to clarify: before falling into the arms of Morpheus, turn off the light!
