Buying Guide: How to Choose the Right Power Strip?

Not all outlets are created equal. Choosing the wrong power strip is the number one cause of household short circuits and incompatible returns. Use this table to find the right model for your needs.

⚠️ The mistake you should never make: Connecting two power strips in series

One of the most frequently asked questions is: "What happens if I plug one power strip into another power strip?" .

Never do this. Daisy chaining dramatically increases electrical resistance. The first power strip must support the load of all the subsequent ones, creating a bottleneck that leads to overheating and a fire risk. If you need more outlets, purchase a single 8- or 12-outlet power strip or a certified extension cord.

Filtered Slippers: When Are They Really Necessary?

A simple lightning storm or power surge can instantly destroy the motherboard of your PC or Smart TV. Surge Protection power strips contain a component called a varistor that absorbs voltage spikes, sacrificing itself to save your expensive devices.
Tip: For valuable electronics, spending a few extra euros on a filtered power strip is the cheapest insurance there is.

Large, Small, or Schuko Plug? Let's clarify.

To avoid returns, always check the plug of your appliance before choosing the power strip:

  • Two-way sockets (10/16A): They accept both "small" Italian plugs (e.g., lamps, decoders) and "large" ones (e.g., hairdryers, vacuum cleaners). They are the most versatile.
  • Schuko sockets (German/Siemens): These are round ones with two holes. Essential for PC monitors, computer power supplies, and kitchen appliances. Our "multi-purpose" power strips have sockets that accept both Schuko and Italian plugs.

How to attach the power strip to the wall or desk?

Want a tidy workstation without trailing cables? Almost all of our power strips have guide holes on the back for wall mounting with anchors or screws. Alternatively, to avoid drilling holes in your desk, you can use heavy-duty Velcro straps or industrial double-sided tape, as the back of our power strips is flat and stable.

How many watts can a power strip handle? (The safety rule)

To avoid "power outages," you need to know the limit. Most standard power strips (small 10A sockets) can handle about 2500 watts . Professional power strips (large 16A Schuko sockets) can handle up to 3680 watts (P.MAX).

Practical example: If you plug a washing machine (2000W) and a hairdryer (1500W) into the same power strip, you exceed the limit (3500W total). In this case, use two different wall outlets.

Safety Checklist ✅

  • Never cover the power strip with carpets or clothes (it needs to dissipate heat).
  • Avoid electric heaters and ovens on cheap power strips; they use too many watts for long periods.
  • ✅ If you hear sparks or buzzing ("zzzz"), turn off the switch and replace the product immediately: the internal contacts are worn.

Frequently Asked Questions

Avoid plugging in large, energy-hungry appliances such as electric ovens, space heaters, portable air conditioners, washing machines, and dryers. These devices require a direct wall connection or specific industrial extension cords to prevent the power strip's contacts from overheating.
It depends on the model. Standard power strips with a small plug (10A) support a maximum of 2500 watts. Power strips with a large or Schuko plug (16A) support up to 3680 watts. Always check the label on the back of the product (P.MAX item).
A power strip with a switch is recommended both for saving energy (it eliminates standby on TVs and PCs with a single click) and for safety, allowing you to isolate all devices from the mains in the event of storms or prolonged absences.
A small blue spark inside is normal (arcing), but if the spark is large, visible from the outside, or you smell something burning, the internal contacts are worn. Replace the power strip immediately to avoid a fire hazard.
No, daisy-chaining is dangerous and not recommended by law. It overloads the first outlet in the chain, increasing the risk of fusion. Use a longer cord or a multiple-outlet power strip if you need an extension cord.
