Splitter with scaler function

It is now known that technology has invaded our homes, and most of us have two or more televisions at home. Some find themselves buying a couple on the same day, and therefore having two new televisions of the same generation, while others buy a new TV for one room, keeping the old one in another and therefore having two TVs with different video quality at home.

Whether yours is the first or second case, it doesn't change the fact of having many signal cables to ensure the right video quality on various TV devices. The solution to this problem is called a splitter with a scaler. Below, we explain what it is, what it is for, and why it is useful and convenient to have it at home. At Via Piave, 17 (in Catania) or on our online store, we can advise you on the most suitable scaler device for your needs.

What is a splitter
A splitter is a device that "splits," or divides into two or more, the signal of an audio-video source it receives from an HDMI cable. It is very simply made: it is a small box with one HDMI input and two or more HDMI outputs, which will be connected to the various devices with an HDMI input.

What is a scaler
A scaler is a device that converts the resolution of video signals with an output resolution different in size from the input. Although the output resolution can be greater or lesser than the input signal, a scaler is used to improve the quality of video signals. For example, it can be used to improve the low-resolution signal from a DVD player while it is being transmitted to a higher-resolution television.

Why choose a splitter with scaler function
When we talk about a 4K signal source, we need to pay attention to a typical need: not all televisions are actually 4K, but also Full HD (1080p).

Therefore, by connecting a Full HD television to a 4K source with a normal splitter, the TV (Full HD) would not be able to reproduce the 4K signal.

The scaler function of a splitter therefore serves to transmit the incoming 4K signal at maximum quality to the TV that supports it and, at the same time, to downscale the resolution to 1080p from the splitter for the Full HD TV. This function ensures that both TVs, with different resolutions, receive the same signal converted for their different needs.
