Panasonic lithium batteries: the brand you buy for the expiration date
With button cell batteries, the difference between a serious product and just any other is visible in two things: charge retention over time and reliability under load. Panasonic is one of the historic benchmarks in the industry for this very reason. In an alarm sensor, a car key, or a medical device, a battery that dies sooner than expected is not just an annoyance: it is a problem.

How to read the code
The four digits after CR indicate the physical size: the first two are the diameter in millimeters, the last two are the thickness in tenths of a millimeter. A CR2032 is therefore 20 mm in diameter and 3.2 mm thick; a CR2025 has the same diameter but is thinner. This is the most common mistake of all: both fit into the compartment, but the thinner one causes a loose connection.
The codes BR, DL, ECR, KCR, and LM are alternative nomenclatures from different manufacturers for the exact same battery: CR2025, DL2025, and ECR2025 are interchangeable. Only the four digits matter.

Eneloop: the rechargeables that come ready to use
Eneloop batteries are low self-discharge NiMH: they maintain most of their charge even after months of disuse, unlike traditional rechargeables that drain on their own in the drawer. This is the feature that makes them suitable for cordless phones and all devices that remain idle and need to work when needed.
Pro-tip. If you need to replace a battery and cannot read the faded code on it, measure it: diameter and thickness with a caliper will give you the exact code. Twenty millimeters by 3.2 mm thick is a CR2032; twenty by 2.5 is a CR2025. And if the device is an alarm, a sensor, or something that must work at all costs, don't wait for it to die: replace it on a schedule. Lithium batteries maintain an almost flat voltage for their entire useful life and then drop suddenly without warning.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use a CR2025 instead of a CR2032?
Not recommended. They have the same diameter but different thickness: the CR2025 is thinner and has less capacity, so it lasts less and can cause a loose connection in the compartment. In the opposite case, a CR2032 may simply not fit.
How long do they last in storage?
Lithium batteries have very low self-discharge and remain usable for years: a battery purchased today and used in a few years will still be almost full. This is why they are chosen for alarms, sensors, and devices that remain in service for a long time.
Can button cell batteries be recharged?
No, CR batteries are primary batteries: attempting to recharge them is dangerous. Eneloop batteries are a completely different product, designed for recharging.
Do 1.2V Eneloops replace 1.5V alkaline batteries?
In most devices, yes, especially in cordless phones that were built for rechargeable batteries. In some voltage-sensitive devices, the difference is noticeable. If you are looking for constant 1.5V, check out the lithium rechargeable batteries with USB-C charging.
How should they be stored and disposed of?
Store them in their original packaging, never loose together with metal objects that could short-circuit them. At the end of their life, they must be taken to the appropriate battery collection bins, never thrown in with general waste: separate collection is mandatory throughout the European Union.
