Homcloud: app-controlled smart Christmas lights
These are Wi-Fi and Bluetooth light strings that can be controlled via smartphone and integrated with voice assistants. Compared to traditional lights, the entire user experience changes: you can choose the color, set animations, schedule automatic on/off times, and you don't need to get up to unplug them at night.
The two models
| Product | Features | Where to use |
|---|---|---|
| 200 LED RGB-IC string, 20 meters | Wi-Fi + Bluetooth, individually addressable LEDs | Christmas tree, railings, indoor outlines |
| 66 RGB outdoor spheres | Wi-Fi + Bluetooth, for outdoor use | Gardens, terraces, facades, potted trees |
What RGB-IC means
It is the difference you notice immediately. In a standard RGB string, all LEDs change color together: if you choose blue, the entire string becomes blue. In an RGB-IC, each LED has its own control circuit and is individually addressable: the same string can show multiple colors at once, gradients that flow along the wire, wave effects, and moving rainbows. On a tree, this is exactly what makes the difference between simple lighting and a show.
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth together: what it's for
Bluetooth allows for immediate setup and direct control when you are nearby, without depending on the network. Wi-Fi is used for remote control, time scheduling, and integration with voice assistants. Having both means the lights still work even if the router is far away or the network goes down.
Expert advice. Before ordering, really measure the length you need. On a tree, the rule of thumb is to count at least a couple of meters of string for every 30 cm of height if you want dense coverage, and much more if you wrap it tightly around the branches. For window frames and railings, measure the perimeter and add the length needed to reach the socket: that part is always forgotten. For outdoor use, check that the power supply point is sheltered — even when the string is suitable for outdoor use, the socket and any extension cords must be protected from water. See the electrical extension cords and IP44 power strips in the electrical equipment section.
Frequently asked questions
Is Wi-Fi required to make them work?
No. Bluetooth allows for direct control from your phone when you are nearby, without a network. Wi-Fi adds remote control, scheduling, and integration with voice assistants.
Can the on and off times be scheduled?
Yes, via the app: it is one of the most practical benefits, as it avoids the need to unplug them every night and reduces energy consumption during hours when no one is looking at them.
Can I connect multiple strings together?
It depends on the model: serial connectability and the maximum number of connectable strings are indicated on the product datasheet. Never exceed the stated limit, as it would overload the first string's power supply.
Are outdoor lights rain-resistant?
The outdoor string is designed for outdoor use according to the declared protection rating. You still need to protect the power supply point and any connections with extension cords: these are the weak points of any outdoor installation.
Do they consume a lot of electricity?
No, LEDs consume very little compared to the old filament bulbs of traditional holiday lighting. With time scheduling, seasonal consumption is reduced even further.
