Weipu: IP68 waterproof connectors for outdoor use
Weipu is the gold standard for waterproof industrial connectors. The SP21 series is what you see here: 30A and 500V circular connectors with an IP68 rating, available in 2 to 5 pin versions, in cable-mount and panel-mount styles. These are the connectors used where the system is outdoors and needs to stay there for years: irrigation, gates, pumps, garden lights, agricultural machinery, mobile setups, audio/lighting service, and boat and camper installations.
How a connection is composed
Every connection has two halves that must be ordered together, and the choice is made based on two axes:
| Type | Where it is mounted |
|---|---|
| Cable plug (male) | On the cable, the side receiving power |
| Cable socket (female) | On the cable, the side providing power |
| Panel socket | On a box, a panel, or machine housing |
| 90° angled version | Where there is no space for a straight cable exit |
| Male + female pair | Ready-to-use solution when both halves are needed |
The number of poles is the other axis: 2 poles for simple phase-neutral power, 3 poles when a ground or third conductor is needed, and 4 or 5 poles for motors, controls, and signals traveling alongside power. Both halves must have the same number of poles: there is no adaptation.
The waterproof RJ45 line
Alongside the power connectors, the range covers data in hostile environments: shielded Cat.5e and Cat.6A RJ45 couplers and junctions with IP67 and IP68 ratings, panel sockets (including angled ones), and IP67 caps to protect an already-crimped RJ45 plug. These are the parts needed to bring a camera into the garden, an access point under a canopy, or a network connection into a warehouse without humidity degrading the contact.
Pro tip. The assembly, not the connector itself, ensures the IP68 rating. Three things to observe: the cable gland must tighten onto the outer sheath and not the individual conductors; the cable diameter must fall within the stated clamping range — a cable that is too thin will let water in even with the nut tightened completely; and the nut must be fully screwed down until it stops, because its compression is what crushes the gasket. One last thing: the two halves must be ordered together, with the same number of poles. If you have any doubts, tell us what you need to connect and how many conductors you require.
Frequently asked questions about Weipu connectors
What does IP68 mean?
Total protection against dust and protection against continuous submersion in water, according to the manufacturer's stated conditions. It is the appropriate rating for junction boxes, buried installations, and environments that are constantly exposed, not just to occasional rain.
How do I choose the number of poles?
Count the conductors that need to pass through, including the ground. Use two poles for simple power without ground, three poles with ground, and four or five when signals or controls travel with the power. It is better to have an unused extra pole than to need to add one later.
Can I mate a Weipu connector with one from another brand?
It's not a good idea. Even when mating seems mechanically possible, tolerances and gaskets are designed for the specific series; mixing brands compromises the seal and contact resistance. Use the two halves from the same family.
Do they really handle 30A?
That value is the maximum current allowed per contact, under the conditions specified by the manufacturer. The practical limit also depends on the gauge of the connected cable and the quality of the termination: an oversized connector for the load works fine, while the opposite will cause it to heat up.
Are they suitable for a buried installation?
The IP68 rating makes them suitable for junction boxes and damp environments, but a buried connection must be accessible for maintenance and installed according to applicable regulations. For fixed installations, the work should be performed by a qualified electrician.
