Wiring Tools: RJ45 Crimping Pliers and Fiber Optic Tools
The right tools cut working time in half and eliminate faulty terminations. In this section, you'll find professional RJ45 crimping pliers made of steel with pass-through technology for Cat.5e, Cat.6, and Cat.7, precision fiber optic cleavers, three-hole calibrated wire strippers, and complete kits with cases. These are the same tools we use in our Catania lab to assemble and test custom cables.
RJ45 crimping pliers: pass-through or traditional?
The difference is substantial. With pass-through technology, the wires completely pass through the RJ45 plug before crimping: you can visually verify the TIA 568B color sequence, and the integrated blade trims off the excess in a single motion. The result: faster terminations and a drastic reduction in positioning errors, the primary cause of unstable links. Traditional pliers remain valid for those working with standard non-pass-through plugs, and multi-pole models also cover RJ11 and 4-6-8-10 pole connectors for telephone systems.
For beginners: the plier + pass-through plug kit (also available with a case) is the most sensible starting point — it avoids incompatibilities between pliers and connectors, as pass-through and standard are not interchangeable.
Fiber Optic Tools
FTTH termination requires millimeter precision. The three-hole calibrated wire stripper (1.6-3.0 mm) removes the jacket and buffer without damaging the bare fiber; the cleaver ensures the 90° cut essential for mechanical splices and pre-polished connectors with low losses. These are the two tools without which no fiber work can be considered professional.
Frequently Asked Questions about Wiring Equipment
Can a pass-through crimper also crimp regular RJ45 plugs?
Yes, most professional pass-through models accept both types. The opposite, however, is not true: a traditional crimper cannot work with pass-through plugs, which require a front trimming blade.
Do crimper blades wear out?
Yes, after hundreds of crimps, the trimming loses precision. That's why we keep replacement blades for professional models in stock: you change the blade, not the pliers.
Do I need a specific crimper for photovoltaic connectors?
Yes: solar connectors require a dedicated crimper for 4/6/10 mm² sections. Crimping with general tools creates contact resistances that heat up and degrade the connector over time.
