Jolight: the lighting line from Alpha Elettronica
Jolight is the brand by Alpha Elettronica dedicated to LED lighting, and it is one of the most comprehensive lines we carry. It covers the entire chain: the source, the fixture that houses it, the profile that protects it, and the dimmer that regulates it. This is why we often use it as a base when a customer needs to redo the lighting of a room rather than just replace a light bulb.
How the range is organized
| Family | What you'll find |
|---|---|
| Light bulbs | E27, E14, G4, GU10 and R7s, plus smart versions controllable via app |
| LED strips and profiles | 24V, digital with running effect, dim to warm, plus aluminum profiles and signal amplifiers |
| Regulation | Traditional and smart LED dimmers, PIR sensors, quick connectors |
| Indoor fixtures | Mini spots, under-cabinet kitchen spotlights, step lights, wall lamps, pendant lamps, starry sky kits |
| Wireless and solar | Rechargeable table lamps, solar wall lamps and floodlights |
Two technologies worth knowing about
Dim to warm. These are strips that mimic the behavior of old incandescent bulbs: as you lower the intensity, the light does not remain cold, but shifts toward warm. It's the difference between a light that dims and a light that sets the mood for the evening. Dining rooms, bedrooms, lounges: places where the light needs to follow the time of day.
Digital with running effect. Each segment is individually addressable, so the light can move along the strip: it accompanies you as you walk up a staircase, step by step. They require a compatible controller and, for long runs, a signal amplifier. They need to be planned in advance, not added later.
The advantage of staying within the same line
Compatibility between the strip, profile, power supply, and dimmer is never guaranteed: a wrong dimmer causes flickering, a profile of a different width won't fit the tape, and an undersized power supply will overheat. Choosing components within the same range significantly reduces these problems, which is why a complete line is worth more than the sum of its individual parts.
Expert advice. Regarding strips, the most frequent mistake involves the power supply: multiply the watts per meter by the actual meters and add at least 20%. Five meters at 15W/m makes 75W, so you need a 90–100W power supply, not 75. One pushed to the limit will overheat, age quickly, and damage the strip. For profiles, check the PCB width — 8, 10, or 12 mm: this determines whether the strip will fit, and it does not match the external width if the tape is silicone-coated.
Frequently asked questions
Are all light bulbs and strips dimmable?
No, and you still need a dimmer compatible with LED loads. Old regulators designed for incandescent bulbs will cause LEDs to flicker or hum and often cannot go below a certain threshold. Digital strips require a dedicated controller, and dim to warm strips require a dimmer that manages color temperature variation.
Is the aluminum profile really necessary?
For exposed installations, yes, for two reasons: it dissipates heat — and heat is what ages LEDs — and with the cover, it diffuses the light, eliminating glare. A strip glued directly onto drywall "cooks" in its own heat and loses brightness year after year.
Do smart bulbs work without a hub?
It depends on the model: some connect directly to your home Wi-Fi, while others require a gateway. Connection methods and compatibility with voice assistants are indicated on each product's page.
Why does the light get dimmer towards the end of the strip?
It's voltage drop: current travels the entire length of the tape and less reaches the end. The solutions are using 24V instead of 12V, powering from both ends, or choosing a version designed for long runs.
Is the starry sky kit complicated to install?
It requires preparing the fiber routing in the false ceiling before finishing: this is a job to be planned during the drywall stage, not added once the ceiling is closed. The light generator must be placed in a position accessible for maintenance.
